The last indoor conventional sectional has been fired and it should be no surprise that the medal winners will be familiar names. Firing a 791, Cos Cob’s Kaitlyn Kutz emerged victorious for the gold sectional medal, firing a perfect 200 in prone and kneeling, 193 in standing, and 198 in sitting. The 200 in kneeling clinched another “match winner” title for her; she settled for 1st Expert in standing and sitting. January’s “Student of the Month” for Vinal Tech, Scott Condo, was 2nd overall for the silver with a score of 787; his 193 standing, 198 sitting, and 197 kneeling garnered him 1st Sharpshooter. Xavier High School’s Jacob Lagace’s perfect match winning score of 200 in sitting led the way to his bronze medal finish of 786, just one point behind Scott. Teammate Michael Acampora was awarded 1st Expert in the aggregate (782), kneeling (197) and prone (200-18 center shots).

Since this is an “open” sectional, the categories are civilian, service, woman, senior, and veteran and must have a minimum of five in a category for NRA to recognize. The women dominated the match, but it was Stratford PAL’s Megan Wilcoxson that clinched the High Woman title. She also proved that prone is her specialty by emerging victorious from a field of six perfect 200’s for Match Winner. Even with six perfect 200’s, Match Director David Lyman had to go back and view three sets of prone targets as three shooters had 18 center shots. And, that was just the beginning of the day; that’s how competitive this match was.
Len Remaly, Massachusett’s veteran senior shooter, fired an outstanding 770 for 1st Master. He was also 1st Master in the prone, sitting, and kneeling matches. Two new lads to the awards bulletin for the sectionals this season, Johnny Lesica, from Henry Abbott Tech and Vinal Tech’s Ryan McConnell both posted 187’s in standing. Johnny received 1st Master and Ryan 1st Marksman. Cos Cob’s Sub-Junior Kyle Kutz landed 1st Marksman for his 196 in the sitting position, with teammate Gillian Riordan landing 1st Sharpshooter for her totals of 768 in the aggregate and 200-13 center shots in prone.
