NRA Junior Indoor Conventional 4-Position Sectional – held Jan 31 thru Feb 5, 2015 – hosted by Blue Trail Range, Wallingford, CT
Vinal Tech has been a force to deal with this past season in local Connecticut matches. Once again, Scott Condo, a sophomore led the team to the 1st Place Scholastic Team finish, firing a 390, with teammate Kurt Aronson following close behind with a 387. Brianna Poissant (374) and Kyle Sioch (370) put in “personal best” outstanding performances to complete the team total of 1521. Six points behind, for 2nd Place Scholastic Team, was the Suffield “Team 1” with a score of 1515 (Megan Williams, 383; Casey Lampert and Jakob Mnich 381’s; and, Aya Ishikawa 370). The Ferry Brook “Gold” shooters from New Hampshire, however, proved to be even tougher and won the team match with a score of 1552. All four shooters—Andrew Solomonides (391), Tobin Sanctuary (389), Hunter Lang (387), and Lacey Hamelin (385) stayed within six points of each other, showing great depth. Their “Silver” team posted a 1511 for 1st Place Junior Club Team. 5th place overall was Cos Cob “Eagles”—1508. High finishes for other groups firing in the team match were Blue Trail Junior’s posting a 1506, Stratford a 1500, Avon Old Farms (1499), Xavier (1477), Wilbraham (1469), and North Haven High School (1458).
In the individual match, five scores in the 390’s were fired with Eric Sloan, Oakdale, CT, leading the pack with clean targets in prone and kneeling, four points down in standing and one in sitting, for a match winning score of 395; 2nd Overall was Andrew Solomonides from New Hampshire (391). Firing 390’s were Xavier freshman Michael Acampora, Vinal Tech Scott Condo, and Hudson New Hampshire Bailey Urbach. Michael, however, had 19 x’s, landing him 3rd overall; Scott, with 15 x’s took High Intermediate Junior; and, newly-signed to The Ohio State University Varsity Rifle Team (go Buckeyes!), Bailey Urbach took 1st Junior laurels with 12 x’s. I’m sure that “x” count will improve under the training of OSU Rifle Coach Ryan Tanoue. Leading the pack in the Sub-Junior category, from Keene, NH, was Joseph Norman Wilson with a fine score of 376.
The management from Blue Trail wants to extend their “warmest” thanks to those that braved the “freezing” New England temperatures and snow banks to make it to the range and fire in the sectional.
